Security Advice
Security is like an onion - it is made up of layers. Every time you add a layer your vehicle becomes more secure. For instance, remove your vehicle keys and a layer of the onion is added. Lock the steering and another layer is added. Add an alarm and another layer is added...and so on. But be aware that no security layer, singularly or all together, can guarantee prevention of theft of your asset. Acutrac therefore, in keeping with Industry norms, do not guarantee the recovery of any stolen asset. The owner should always be adequately insured against theft for their asset(s).
Even with an Acutrac system fitted, prevention is better than cure so always take common sense precautions to reduce the risk of theft. A motorcycle is one of the most vulnerable vehicles and as many riders will choose to fit Acutrac, we advise riders to take note of the following advice.
Most vehicle theft occurs at weekends and during the evening or night from owner’s homes so don’t promote the fact you have a motorcycle there. Keep it covered and preferably out of sight, if possible in a locked and alarmed building. However, theft from public places is also a significant risk, so always look out for secure parking when you’re parking your motorcycle away from home.
Top Tips § Whether at home or out and about, always lock your motorcycle to an immovable object so thieves can’t wheel it away § When you’re out, ideally you should find a location with secure parking and preferably covered by CCTV§ Park your motorcycle somewhere well lit that is likely to have pedestrians around § Don’t leave your lock and chain behind (eg: on a lamp-post or railing) when you leave a regular parking place as it could be tampered with before you return§ Always take your keys with you, use the steering lock and ideally cover your motorcycle§ If possible, don’t leave any possessions on your motorcycle, including your helmet § If you have bought a security device or system, use it!
